Jeju Turns School Pool into Training Facility as Sinjeju Elementary Launches 18-Member Swimming Team

Rather than relying on external training facilities, the program will support students in balancing their academic studies and athletic training in a school-based environment.
Sinjeju Elementary School held an opening ceremony for its swimming team, composed of 18 student-athletes, at the school's gymnasium on the 22nd. The event was attended by the athletes, parents, faculty members and sports officials.
The key feature of the launch is that the school will directly use its own swimming pool to develop student-athletes. Students who had previously pursued swimming individually will now be able to receive training and support through the school's sports program. Another advantage is that they can train consistently in a stable environment on campus rather than at a separate facility outside the school.
Sinjeju Elementary School plans to use its on-campus pool to gradually improve the students' basic fitness and swimming skills. It will also support student-athletes in maintaining a healthy balance between classes and training.
A school sports team differs from athletic activities focused solely on competition results. The school will provide training conditions and manage the athletes while enabling student-athletes to continue their studies within the school curriculum and receive professional training.

With the launch, Sinjeju Elementary School has connected its existing athletic facilities to a foundation for developing student-athletes. The school is focused on establishing a system for identifying students with an interest and talent in swimming and providing them with continued training on campus.
The opening ceremony included an introduction of the team and the reading of a student-athlete pledge. The student-athletes pledged to train diligently in accordance with the spirit of fair play and to grow into athletes who represent their school and community.
For elementary school athletes in particular, it is important to have an environment that supports both improved performance and the stable management of academic and training schedules. Sinjeju Elementary School plans to link on-campus training with school life, supporting not only the students' athletic abilities but also their character development.
