Jeonbuk State Explores Responses to the Energy Transition

[Financial News, Jeonju = Reporter Kang In] Jeonbuk State held a special lecture at its government office on the 23rd, inviting Woohyun Hwang, honorary distinguished professor in the Department of Electrical and Information Engineering at Seoul National University of Science and Technology (SeoulTech), to speak on 'Accelerating Jeonbuk’s Energy Transition and Strategies for Power System Stabilization.'
The lecture was organized to deepen understanding of changes in future power grids and explore response measures linked to Jeonbuk’s energy and industrial policies, as renewable energy expansion and the growth of advanced industries increase electricity demand and the importance of power grids.
Professor Hwang outlined changes in electricity demand in the era of electrification and future grid transition directions, including the 'Super Digital Grid.' He also discussed power system constraints resulting from renewable energy expansion and ways to stabilize the grid using energy storage systems (ESS) and distributed energy.
In particular, he examined the regional impact of new electricity demands—including AI data centers, electric vehicles and RE100 (Renewable Energy 100%)—as well as changes in the energy industry. He proposed a direction for Jeonbuk’s energy transition that links renewable energy with local industries.
Jeonbuk State Governor Lee Won-taek said, "The importance of the power grid is growing further as renewable energy expands and advanced industries grow." He added, "Using this lecture as an opportunity, we will actively explore policy measures to connect Jeonbuk’s renewable energy with local industrial growth and residents’ incomes and to establish a foundation for a stable power system."
