Father Confronts Man Over "Sex Video With His Daughter"—CCTV Footage Reveals a Twist

[Financial News] On the afternoon of April 9 last year, A visited a bakery in Mapo District, Seoul, where A's daughter worked part-time. A confronted the bakery's owner, B (41), about a sensitive matter: whether B had a video of sexual intercourse with A's daughter. A scuffle soon broke out between them.
The scuffle eventually escalated into an assault dispute. B claimed that A blocked B from entering the store and pushed B several times with A's body. After a police investigation, the case went to court, and A was prosecuted on assault charges.
However, roadside surveillance CCTV footage that captured the incident showed a different scene.
The footage showed A sitting on a chair outside the store for some time. A was later seen trying to enter the store, and for about 15 seconds, both A and B disappeared from the frame.
B's side argued that the assault may have occurred during those 15 seconds in a blind spot of the CCTV camera.
The court questioned that argument, noting that the blind spot around the store entrance was not as large as it appeared. If A had blocked the entrance and pushed B several times, the two would have been standing one behind the other, meaning at least part of B should have appeared on the CCTV footage. Yet neither person was visible during that segment.
The employee who claimed to have witnessed the assault also had an unclear memory of what happened. Employee C testified in court that C saw A grab B by the hand, but could not remember whether A actually pushed B.
The trial panel pointed out that, based on the facts alleged in the indictment alone, it was difficult to determine even which part of A's body was said to have been used to push B. The complaint filed a month after the incident and the transcript of the employee's recorded statement also failed to clearly substantiate how the alleged assault had occurred, the court said.
Instead, CCTV footage showed B pushing A a few minutes later. The video captured B approaching A, holding A for several seconds, pushing A toward the store, then pulling A back toward the road and pushing A again.
Ultimately, the court found that there was insufficient evidence to conclude that A had assaulted B.
According to legal sources on the 24th, Single-Judge Criminal Division 6 of the Seoul Western District Court (Judge Kim Jin-sung) acquitted A, who had been indicted on assault charges, on July 13. The trial panel stated, "It is difficult to find the charges proven based solely on the evidence submitted by the prosecution," and ruled that the case fell under circumstances in which the crime had not been proven.
