[Financial News] Chu Ga-eun, 25, of Korea's national shooting team, hit the golden target to give Korea's shooting delegation its first gold medal.
Chu Ga-eun finished first among eight competitors after scoring 246.3 points in the women's 10m air pistol individual event final at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, held on the 23rd at the Aichi Prefecture General Shooting Range in Japan.
Chu Ga-eun's score of 246.3 points broke the previous Asian record, set by Yukari Konishi of Japan in 2017, by 1.0 point. Shen Yao won the silver medal with 241.3 points, while Zhang Lanxin took bronze with 221.6 points. Both are from China.
It had been 16 years since a Korean athlete won the women's 10m air pistol individual event at the Asian Games, when Kim Yun-mi took gold at the 2010 Guangzhou Games.
Earlier, Chu Ga-eun scored 582 points in the individual event qualification round, which also counted as the team event, setting an Asian Games record. She then teamed up with Oh Ye-jin of Industrial Bank of Korea and Kim Bo-mi of Busan City Hall to win the team silver medal, bringing her total medal haul at the Games to two.
