[Financial News]  A heartwarming story has emerged from Chungju, North Chungcheong Province, where a man in his 70s living alone and at risk of starving to death was safely rescued thanks to a neighbor's concern.
According to Yonhap News Agency on the 23rd, a man in his 70s identified as Mr. A, who lives alone in Chungju, was rescued after a neighbor alerted authorities.
After his wife died 30 years ago, Mr. A had lived without contact with his children. Recently, he began having difficulty managing daily life, including a decline in cognitive function.
When Mr. A had not gone outside for a week, a neighbor living across the street became concerned and reported it to the Chungju City administrative welfare center on the 10th.
Mr. A was reportedly in danger of starving to death after being unable to eat for several days. His life could have been at risk, but he was safely rescued thanks to the neighbor's concern.
Mr. A regained stability while receiving intensive inpatient treatment at a hospital and was reported to have recovered much of his strength.
A Chungju City official said, "Residents who keep the closest watch on their neighbors are the very heart of community welfare. This is something we have been reminded of once again," adding, "We deeply appreciate the residents' warm concern."
Chungju City plans to help Mr. A apply for an assessment for long-term care eligibility and continue providing care after his discharge by connecting him with local social welfare services.
