Korea Expressway Corporation Breaks Down Chuseok Traffic Forecasts, Provides Travel Times by Time Slot

[Financial News] Travelers will be able to check estimated travel times between major cities on Chuseok trips to and from their hometowns by date and time slot. While driving, they can compare estimated times for different routes through variable message signs (VMS) and text messages.
According to Korea Expressway Corporation on the 23rd, the traffic forecast is based on analyzing historical data from periods with similar expected traffic volumes, holiday conditions and weather. Average speeds by road section and travel times between cities are then calculated.
In previous years, guidance focused on peak congestion periods for Chuseok travel and the longest travel times between major cities. Starting this year, information by date and time slot will be reflected in the predicted congestion map, allowing users to choose their departure times more precisely. 
The forecast is available on ROAD PLUS under “Traffic Forecast → Travel Times Between Major Cities.” On the “Expressway Traffic Information” app, users can access it by selecting “More → Traffic Forecast → Travel Times Between Major Cities.”
While driving, route-specific estimated travel times between major cities will be provided for comparison through VMS and text message services. Korea Expressway Corporation expects this to help ease the concentration of vehicles on specific routes.
However, the travel times between major cities shown in the app are measured from the entry tollgate to the exit tollgate. When planning an actual trip, users should separately account for the time required to travel from their point of departure to the entry tollgate and from the exit tollgate to their final destination.
Korea Expressway Corporation plans to expand information sharing with private platforms such as NAVER and Kakao, gradually providing detailed travel times for the entire road network.
