Minister Yun Ho-jung to Discuss the Social and Solidarity Economy with 14 Countries in New York

[Financial News]  Yun Ho-jung, minister of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety (MOIS), will attend a high-level meeting on the social and solidarity economy in New York, held to coincide with the high-level week of the United Nations General Assembly. He will discuss social and solidarity economy policies with ministers and high-level officials from 14 countries, including Spain, and sign memorandums of understanding (MOUs) with Spain and Senegal.
According to MOIS on the 23rd, Minister Yun will visit New York from the 24th to the 26th. The meeting, co-hosted by the United Nations and the Spanish government, will bring together ministers from 10 countries, including Spain, as well as high-level officials from four countries, including Kenya's vice minister for small and medium-sized enterprises. Participants will discuss the implementation of United Nations General Assembly Resolution 79/213, adopted in 2024, and the adoption of a third UN General Assembly resolution on the social and solidarity economy in 2027.
South Korea is participating as a founding country of the Group of Friends of the Social and Solidarity Economy, which was launched in June. At the meeting, Minister Yun will introduce South Korea's experience in institutionalizing the sector, including the enactment of the Framework Act on the Social and Solidarity Economy and the establishment of a comprehensive plan. In June, the government announced a comprehensive plan for the development of the social and solidarity economy, identifying care, housing, energy, and rural and fishing communities as its four priority areas.
Minister Yun will meet with Yolanda Díaz Pérez, Spain's second deputy prime minister and minister of labour and social economy, to sign an MOU. The agreement will cover eight areas, including legal and institutional improvements, joint research, social value measurement, and social and solidarity finance. He will also sign an MOU with Alioune Dione, Senegal's minister of microfinance and social and solidarity economy, to share policy experience.
With Li Junhua, under-secretary-general of the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA), Minister Yun will discuss ways to expand their existing cooperation in public administration and digital government into the social and solidarity economy.
Minister Yun said, "This visit will provide an opportunity to share with the international community our institutional achievements, including the enactment of the Framework Act on the Social and Solidarity Economy and the establishment of a comprehensive plan, while further promoting international exchanges to advance the social and solidarity economy."
