AI Cuts Work Time by 1 Hour and 47 Minutes... Kakao Impact Foundation Shares AX Experience

[Financial News] Kakao Impact Foundation presented its experience with AI transformation (AX) at the foundation and across the social innovation sector on the main stage of the 3rd Korea Social Value Festa, and unveiled the “AX Guide for the Social Innovation Ecosystem.” The foundation plans to share with the broader ecosystem the experience and lessons it gained by testing AI first and applying it to its work, while developing ways for AI to make a practical contribution to solving social problems.
According to industry sources on the 23rd, the Korea Social Value Festa is hosted by the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI). The event brings together companies, government agencies, academia and social innovation organizations to share solutions to various social problems and examples of collaboration. Kakao Impact Foundation participated for the second consecutive year after joining the event last year. This year, it held a special program called the “Helping AI Stage” on the main stage and introduced cases of AI transformation in the foundation and the social innovation sector through its own AX initiative and Tech for Impact Lab. The presentation was titled “Kakao Impact’s AX Experiment with Social Innovation Organizations: How We Went from Knowing Nothing About Technology to Solving Social Problems with AI.”
Kakao Impact Foundation shared the changes and results of its in-house AX initiative, which began last April. The foundation supported employees in using AI, shared related experiences across the organization and regularly measured changes in work methods. As a result, the proportion of employees who had experience improving work processes with AI rose from 29% in April to 65% as of the end of August. Employees reported saving an average of 107 minutes of work per day through AI use.
As an example from the social innovation sector, the foundation introduced “Tech for Impact Lab AX.” Kakao Impact Foundation has operated Tech for Impact Lab, where social innovators and IT experts collaborate to develop technologies needed to solve social problems. This year, the foundation is supporting AX initiatives and technological improvements at social innovation organizations so that technologies developed through the lab can continue to be used in the field.
A representative example is “Caring Note,” a medication counseling record and analysis service jointly developed by Neulpumgachi, an incorporated association, and IT experts at Tech for Impact LAB.
Previously, pharmacists had to manually record medication details after each consultation. After Caring Note was introduced, consultations could be recorded and AI used to automate medication records, reducing the time required to manage counseling records to about one-third of the previous level. As a result, pharmacists were able to counsel more clients. Over the 18 months following its introduction, the number of medication counseling sessions provided by the “Visiting Medication Counseling Center” increased from 10 to 53, while the number of clients rose from 120 to 437. The number of participating pharmacists also grew from six to 30. To help social innovation organizations independently operate and further develop technologies used in the field, Kakao Impact Foundation has supported Neulpumgachi since May in directly planning and improving functions needed on-site with AI coding tools.
Kakao Impact Foundation also unveiled the “AX Guide for the Social Innovation Ecosystem,” developed based on its experience to date. The guide organizes into five stages the processes social innovation organizations need to pursue AX, from establishing their own standards for AI use and assigning responsible personnel to preparing a data environment, conducting regular measurements and reviews, and expanding changes across the organization. It also includes practical questions and criteria for assessing an organization’s work environment and level of AI use and measuring change. The guide is available for anyone to view and use through the Kakao Impact Foundation website. In December, Kakao Impact Foundation plans to continue sharing the changes created by AX at the foundation and across the social innovation sector at a Tech for Impact performance presentation.
