BAI Refers Six Cases Involving the NEC, Including Ballot Printing and Contracts, to Special Prosecutor

[Financial News] The Board of Audit and Inspection (BAI) has referred six cases to the special prosecutor’s team investigating the NEC as investigative reference materials after auditing the National Election Commission’s execution of election-related budgets, including ballot printing and contracts for the June 3 local elections. The BAI determined that the cases required a prompt investigation.
The BAI said on the 23rd that it had first forwarded materials concerning matters suspected of bid interference, improper sole-source contracts and improper inspections to the special prosecutor’s team. It explained that the decision took into account the fact that the special prosecutor’s investigation is limited to a maximum of 150 days.
Following the June 3 local elections, the BAI deployed 48 audit personnel to examine the budgeting and spending of election-related funds, including ballot printing and contracts, as well as major allegations.
However, the BAI did not disclose specific details, saying, "The criminal suspicions in the individual cases have not been confirmed."
