Industrial complex tenant companies are pursuing export contracts worth $106 million with overseas buyers. As technology partnerships connecting startups with global investors expand alongside export consultations, industrial complexes are broadening their role beyond production bases to become global business hubs.
According to Korea Industrial Complex Corporation on the 23rd, a total of 1,091 export consultations were held at the 2nd Korea Industrial Complex Export Fair (KICEF 2026), held at EXCO from the 14th to the 16th. The total consultation value was tallied at $332 million, of which $106 million was in contracts being pursued.
The fair attracted 102 global buyers from 19 countries and 250 domestic companies. The number of export consultations increased by approximately 44% from last year's 760.
A total of 15 memorandums of understanding (MOUs), valued at $5.4 million, were also signed at the event. Compared with last year's eight agreements worth $800,000, the number of agreements rose by approximately 88%, while their value increased 6.75-fold.
The event was also seen as having laid the groundwork for actual export contracts by moving beyond simple product introductions to detailed discussions on supply conditions, transaction methods and future cooperation plans.
Investment and technology cooperation discussions were also active at KICXUP GLOBAL 2026, a global open innovation event held alongside the export consultations.
The event, co-hosted by Korea Industrial Complex Corporation and Korea Credit Guarantee Fund (KODIT), brought together 45 domestic and overseas companies and investment institutions, including domestic corporate customers such as HD Hyundai Samho and Sealink and overseas investors such as U.S.-based New Energy Nexus and U.K.-based Simsan Ventures. Around 150 startups also participated, bringing the total number of participating companies to approximately 200.
During the event, 143 one-on-one business meetings were held between startups and domestic and overseas corporate customers and investors. The meetings resulted in five proposals to expand investment networks, 10 technology validation proof-of-concept (PoC) cases, 11 discussions on follow-on investment and guarantees, and four business collaboration proposals.
The event also provided an opportunity to assess startups' technological capabilities and commercialization potential. Thirty outstanding companies displayed innovative products, while 28 startups participated in investor-relations (IR) presentations. Of these, 10 companies, including MarinaChain, Lumos and Naeil Sajang, were selected as outstanding startups and will receive additional points in future reviews for funding support for technology validation.
Korea Industrial Complex Corporation plans to strengthen follow-up support so that the export and investment opportunities identified at the event lead to actual contracts.
It will support follow-up negotiations between participating companies and overseas buyers and identify additional export opportunities by linking the event with KOTRA's 'Export Boom-Up Korea,' scheduled to take place from October 21 to 22.
It also plans to identify promising startups through the '2026 G-Valley Startup Competition,' which offers total prize money of 32 million won, and support startup incubation programs as well as connections to investment and financing.
Lee Sang-hoon, chairman of Korea Industrial Complex Corporation, said, "This event was an opportunity to confirm that the technologies and products of industrial complex companies could lead not only to exports but also to investment and technology partnerships." He added, "We will build a global business platform by connecting each region's specialized industries and outstanding companies with global markets, centered on the '5 Poles, 3 Special Regions' framework."
