Ruling party: "Leaking the recording of the briefing on investment in the United States is an obvious criminal act... We will file a complaint"

[Financial News] The Democratic Party of Korea classified the leak of the contents of briefings to the National Assembly by the Ministry of Trade and Industry and the Ministry of Economy and Finance concerning investment in the United States as an obvious criminal act. It announced that it would identify and file a complaint against the person who first circulated the recording containing the briefing.
Democratic Party of Korea lawmakers on the Trade, Industry, Energy, SMEs and Startups Committee held a press conference at the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea on the 23rd and announced this position.
The Democratic Party of Korea said, "A serious illegal act that can never be tolerated and should never have occurred in the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea has taken place," adding, "A confidential government briefing on investment in the United States held at the National Assembly was illegally recorded, and a calamity unfolded when its contents were circulated to and reported by the media."
It went on, "The briefing dealt with confidential matters, including the terms of consultations between South Korea and the United States, and was held behind closed doors under relevant provisions, including the National Assembly Act and the Korea–U.S. Strategic Investment Special Act. Only a bare minimum of people attended and received the confidential briefing." It criticized the situation, saying, "Yet almost immediately after the meeting ended, an illegal recording transcript containing the confidential briefing in full was circulated to the press corps, and detailed negotiations on investment in the United States were reported extensively by the media without being filtered."
The Democratic Party of Korea called it "an obvious criminal act," describing it as "an illegal act that directly violates the National Assembly Act, which strictly prohibits the disclosure and leaking of the contents of closed-door National Assembly meetings, as well as a brazen crime that harms the national interest by weakening the country's leverage in negotiations with other countries."
It declared, "There is no ruling or opposition party when national interests and national security are at stake. We will file a complaint immediately. We will pursue the criminals who carried out the illegal recording and circulation of the material to the very end and bring them to justice. We make clear that we will fight with every means available to restore trust in the National Assembly and protect the national interest."
It added, "If, by any chance, the person who made and circulated the illegal recording is found to be a member of the National Assembly, that lawmaker must immediately resign their seat," and said, "We will also establish measures at the National Assembly level to prevent such an incident from happening again."
Jang Chul-min, the Democratic Party of Korea's floor leader on the Trade, Industry, Energy, SMEs and Startups Committee, told reporters after the press conference, "The existence of the recording itself has been clearly confirmed," adding, "Who made the recording and to whom it was delivered are matters that must be established through an investigation."
Jang said, "Regardless of whether the person is from the People Power Party, the Democratic Party of Korea or is an independent, a clear investigation must be conducted and legal punishment must be imposed," adding, "The party will immediately begin a legal review."
