[Financial News] Financial Security Institute will strengthen its emergency response framework for financial security during the Chuseok holiday period. As cyber threats exploiting artificial intelligence intensify, it will also bolster integrated security monitoring.
According to the financial industry on the 23rd, Financial Security Institute plans to respond comprehensively to emergencies and cyber threats during the Chuseok holiday period. As cyberattacks exploiting AI become increasingly sophisticated and automated, the institute will strengthen integrated security monitoring to prevent security incidents and respond swiftly. In particular, it plans to take more active measures against attacks exploiting security vulnerabilities through externally exposed information.
Financial Security Institute held a Financial ISAC crisis assessment meeting on the 8th to review its emergency response level and key response procedures. At the meeting, chaired by the head of the Cyber Response Division, the institute decided to raise its response posture for the cyber crisis alert, currently at the "attention" level, to one equivalent to the "caution" level during the holiday period. Cyberattacks targeting weakened security postures during the holiday could increase.
Financial Security Institute will operate an emergency duty system centered on officials in key positions, including the head of the Financial Security Monitoring Center, a department-head-level official, to ensure swift decision-making and on-site responses when emergencies such as security incidents occur. The system will maintain immediate information sharing and a return-to-duty process.
Financial Security Institute also reviewed its cooperation system with the government and relevant agencies, including the Financial Services Commission (FSC). It is preparing to ensure that information is shared quickly when unusual developments arise. The institute will also strengthen its monitoring response capabilities by sharing and discussing recent attack techniques and security incident cases, while preparing to respond swiftly if similar attacks occur.
During the Chuseok holiday period, the institute plans to strengthen integrated security monitoring as well. In light of the possibility of AI exploitation, it will enhance detection criteria for user-action-induced malware infection attempts, including attacks that exploit security vulnerabilities using externally exposed authentication information. If a security incident occurs, the institute will immediately begin an investigation and guide financial companies on the necessary measures based on its analysis, enabling swift follow-up responses during the holiday.
In addition, the institute will strengthen inspections using Atlas ASM to identify the financial sector's external attack surface and enable proactive measures against potential risks. Atlas is an attack surface management (ASM) service operated by Financial Security Institute. It continuously identifies and analyzes externally exposed assets, vulnerabilities, and threat information.
Park Sang-won, head of Financial Security Institute, said, "Ahead of the Chuseok holiday, Financial Security Institute will thoroughly inspect its monitoring systems, emergency contact network, and response procedures. We will reflect the latest cyber threat trends, including the possibility of AI exploitation, to ensure that anomaly detection and analysis and initial responses are carried out swiftly."
