[Financial News] KB Securities announced on the 23rd that it had signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with global tokenization platform Securitize and global blockchain company Optimism Foundation to cooperate on tokenized securities business for domestic institutions.
Under the agreement, the three parties will jointly pursue tokenized securities business based on domestic assets. KB Securities will be responsible for supplying products by leveraging its capabilities in underwriting, issuing and selling financial products, along with its institutional client base. It plans to first introduce tokenized money market funds (MMFs) for institutional clients and tokenized funds incorporating KB Asset Management's flagship investment strategies. The company also plans to gradually expand the underlying assets to stocks, American depositary receipts (ADRs), corporate bonds and government bonds as South Korea's tokenized securities framework is put in place.
Securitize will provide tokenization infrastructure, while Optimism Foundation will supply a blockchain-based network. Through the partnership, the parties plan to establish a collaborative system covering the issuance and distribution of tokenized products for institutional investors.
Jaeman Park, an executive director at KB Securities, said, "The significance of this agreement lies in establishing the foundation for a tokenized securities business for domestic institutional investors by combining each company's specialized capabilities." He added, "We will continue to closely monitor regulatory and market changes, expand cooperation with global partners, and further strengthen our capabilities to provide new financial products and services."
