Incheon Coast Guard Issues 'Caution' Advisory for Coastal Accidents Ahead of Chuseok Holiday and Spring Tide

【Financial News, Incheon—Reporter Han Gap-su】 The Incheon Coast Guard will issue a caution-level coastal accident risk advisory to prevent safety accidents in coastal waters during the period when the Chuseok holiday coincides with a spring tide.
The Incheon Coast Guard announced on September 23 that it would issue a caution-level coastal accident risk advisory for eight days, from September 25 to October 2.
During the advisory period, a spring tide is expected to bring a larger-than-usual tidal range and a faster rate of sea-level rise. With the number of visitors to coastal areas expected to increase sharply during the holiday for mudflat activities, tidal-flat foraging, and fishing, the risks of becoming stranded, falling, or drowning are also expected to rise.
To prevent accidents, the Coast Guard plans to step up patrols in vulnerable coastal areas and conduct proactive safety management tailored to tidal conditions. It will also maintain a 24-hour emergency response posture in preparation for possible accidents.
The Coast Guard will also strengthen its cooperation system with local governments and related agencies. It plans to publicize the coastal accident risk advisory through electronic display boards and emergency text alerts, while actively promoting safety rules for coastal activities through the agencies' social media channels.
Yang Jong-ta, chief of the Incheon Coast Guard, urged the public to take precautions, saying, "During a spring tide, the water can rise quickly even within a short period, leaving people stranded." He added, "Before engaging in coastal activities, be sure to check the tide times and strictly follow basic safety rules, including observing permitted access hours and wearing a life jacket."
