HJ Shipbuilding & Construction Secures Orders for Four 10,100-TEU Container Ships Worth KRW 678.9 Billion

[Financial News] HJ Shipbuilding & Construction, a leading Busan-based company, announced on the 23rd that it had secured an order from a shipping company in Oceania for four 10,100-TEU-class container ships worth a total of KRW 678.9 billion.
The ordering party is a shipowner that had previously ordered container ships from HJ Shipbuilding & Construction.
HJ Shipbuilding & Construction explained, "The customer's satisfaction with the quality and shipbuilding capabilities demonstrated in the vessels we previously built led to this repeat order. This is significant because it shows that the market has recognized our capabilities in building large container ships and our quality competitiveness."
With this contract, the number of 10,000-TEU-class container ships secured by HJ Shipbuilding & Construction this year has risen to eight. After winning an order in February for its first 10,000-TEU-class container ship to be built at Yeongdo Shipyard, the company secured orders for two more in April.
The 10,000-TEU-class container ship is a company-developed model and the largest type of vessel HJ Shipbuilding & Construction can build at the dock of Yeongdo Shipyard. Based on a latest hull design popular in the market, it incorporates high-efficiency propulsion and hull-design technologies aimed at reducing fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. Its increased capacity for reefer containers, which are used to transport refrigerated and frozen cargo, also enables it to meet demand for high-value cargo transportation.
The ships also feature eco-friendly specifications designed to address stricter regulations from the International Maritime Organization (IMO). They are equipped with scrubbers for desulfurization and feature methanol-ready designs, expanding shipowners' options for switching to eco-friendly fuels and securing long-term operational competitiveness.
HJ Shipbuilding & Construction has secured a total of eight 10,000-TEU-class container ships of the same type and design this year. This will allow the company to maximize the benefits of series production across the entire process, from design and materials procurement to manufacturing. The development is expected to improve production efficiency and cost competitiveness.
