[Financial News] As South Korean software companies expand their global operations, analysts say that localization strategies backed by proven technological capabilities have been the key to their success.
According to an analysis released by supply chain management software company Emro on the 23rd, South Korean software companies are expanding beyond their traditional core markets in Asia into the United States and Europe. They are also achieving a series of successes in the global enterprise software market.
Unlike other industries, the enterprise software market has been difficult to enter from overseas because of its high barriers to entry. According to the 2025 Software Industry Survey by the Software Policy & Research Institute (SPRi), only about 2.8% of South Korean software companies engage in overseas business activities. These companies cite local regulations and institutional and cultural differences (35%), a lack of information about local markets and customers (25%), and difficulties responding to local requirements (12.2%) as their main obstacles to overseas expansion.
Emro explained, "Enterprise package solutions that handle companies’ core operations are high-involvement products because they require substantial costs to implement, as well as considerable time and resources to replace existing systems or establish new processes. For this reason, it is difficult to target local markets based solely on price competitiveness or domestic references."
Emro added, "In addition to proven technological capabilities and global references, it is essential to obtain various security and technology certifications that meet local standards and to be listed in reports by global market research firms such as International Data Corporation (IDC) and Gartner."
For example, Emro, which recently supplied its global SRM SaaS solution Caidentia to a leading European energy solutions company, obtained global security certifications such as the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and SOC 2 Type 2. The company said the certifications were intended to objectively demonstrate the solution’s stability and excellence in the global market and enhance its credibility.
Since joining forces with Samsung SDS in 2024 to accelerate its overseas expansion, Emro has established a presence in the European market following North America and has now secured its first European customer. To date, it has secured three customers in North America and one in Europe.
The achievements of South Korean companies in the global enterprise software market, which has traditionally had high barriers to entry, are being viewed as evidence of new potential for K-Software.
Emro stated, "Hancom is also accelerating its expansion into overseas markets, primarily in the United States and Europe, while South Korean security companies such as AhnLab, Genians, and Stealien are expanding their overseas businesses, particularly in the Middle East and Southeast Asia. Their core competitive advantages are thorough localization strategies and technology and security validation at global standards. With these strengths, K-Software can establish itself as a key player in the global market."
