Fee Reductions to Be Extended to All Military Service Exemplary Families Nationwide as Ulsan Expands Benefits

[Financial News Ulsan = Reporter Choi Su-sang] Ulsan Metropolitan City said it will provide fee reductions at public facilities, including sports facilities, art museums, and parking lots, within the city to eligible service members from Military Service Exemplary Families nationwide.
Ulsan Metropolitan City announced a legislative notice on the 23rd for a partial amendment to the Ordinance on Honoring Military Service Exemplary Families of Ulsan Metropolitan City. The amendment removes residency restrictions to expand benefits for Military Service Exemplary Families.
The measure follows the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission (ACRC)'s recommendation in May to improve regulations restricting local benefits for Military Service Exemplary Families.
A Military Service Exemplary Family is a family designated by the Military Manpower Administration in which three generations have faithfully fulfilled their military service obligations, including active-duty service. Eligible families include those in which a grandfather, father and brothers, and the individual and their siblings or cousins fulfilled their obligations across three generations. If there are no men among the three generations, families are also eligible when the women completed their mandatory active-duty service.
Under the current ordinance, Ulsan Metropolitan City provides only service members from Military Service Exemplary Families who are registered residents of Ulsan, along with their families, with 30% to 50% reductions in public-facility use fees, admission fees, and parking fees at Ulsan Grand Park, Ulsan Metropolitan City's sports facilities, Ulsan Art Museum, and other facilities. As of the end of August this year, Ulsan had 541 Military Service Exemplary Families, comprising 2,526 people.
The amendment removes restrictions on beneficiaries' registered addresses and residential areas, allowing service members from Military Service Exemplary Families to receive the benefits when visiting Ulsan regardless of where they live in the country. The Military Manpower Administration has registered a total of 10,511 Military Service Exemplary Families nationwide, comprising 47,738 people.
The legislative notice will remain open through October 13. After gathering opinions from residents and relevant organizations, Ulsan Metropolitan City plans to pursue the amendment with the goal of putting it into effect on January 1 next year.
A city official said, "This amendment is intended to ensure that families that have faithfully fulfilled their military service obligations are respected regardless of where they live. We will continue to improve related systems so that the Military Service Exemplary Family recognition program can be meaningfully experienced in practice."
