Chuncheon's Hakgok District to Get 125 Daily City Bus Runs as Service Nearly Triples

【Financial News, Chuncheon = Reporter Kim Gi-seop】The number of city buses serving Chuncheon's Hakgok District, home to about 2,700 households, will rise from 10 to 24. The increase is expected to significantly ease residents' commuting and school travel difficulties.
According to Chuncheon on the 23rd, the city will partially reorganize seven city bus routes—Nos. 1, 2, 3, 4, 15, 16-1 and 400—starting on the 30th, in line with the opening of the Hakgok-ri Second Public Bus Depot and the move-in of residents to large apartment complexes. Fourteen buses will be added across two routes serving Hakgok District, bringing the number of daily runs from 43 to 125, nearly triple the current level.
Twenty-four buses on three routes will begin operating from the Second Public Bus Depot. Routes 2, 3 and 4 will be extended to the depot, prompting timetable changes, while Route 15's operating hours will be adjusted as its starting and ending points change.
The changes also take school travel demand into account. Route 1 will be rerouted through Namchuncheon Station, making it easier for students at Chuncheon National University of Education to transfer to a train. Route 400, which previously ended at Namchuncheon Station, will be extended to Hupyeong-dong via Kangwon National University (KNU), Gangwon College of Education Affiliated High School and Bongui High School. The change is expected to improve transportation access for students as well as Hupyeong-dong residents.
Route 16-1 will retain its current operating hours but will be rerouted toward Hoban Long-Term Care Hospital and Toegye Elementary School instead of Chuncheon Samaksan Mountain Lake Cable Car, Nambu Elementary School and Namchuncheon Middle School. Chuncheon plans to clearly set departure times from each route's starting point and terminal to reduce the problem of buses bunching up on some circular routes and improve on-time service. A city official said, "With about 2,700 households moving into Hakgok District and the Second Public Bus Depot opening, we have redesigned the routes, including increasing the number of daily runs to 125 and extending Route 400 to Hupyeong-dong." The official added, "After the changes take effect on the 30th, we will closely monitor bus operations and residents' feedback for a while and address any inconveniences."
