Ongjin County and Incheon Metropolitan Office of Education Join Forces to Address Education Gap in Island Regions

[Financial News Incheon = Han Gap-su, Reporter] Ongjin County in Incheon Metropolitan City and the Incheon Metropolitan Office of Education have agreed to join forces to narrow the education gap in island regions and create a tailored educational environment reflecting local characteristics.
Ongjin County and the Incheon Metropolitan Office of Education announced on the 23rd that they had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on operating a leading region for education innovation on the 22nd and agreed to strengthen their cooperation system for the development of education in island regions.
The agreement was pursued to establish an education innovation model that takes into account the geographical characteristics of island regions and to reduce disparities in educational conditions between regions.
Since 2019, Ongjin County has operated the Ongjin Foreign Language Classroom in cooperation with the Incheon Metropolitan Office of Education to overcome the geographical limitations of island regions and expand students' access to foreign-language education.
The county has also worked to improve the educational environment by continuously supporting schools in the area with expenses for career education programs and field trips outside the area, providing students with a variety of educational experiences.
Following the agreement, Ongjin County plans to expand the development and support of education programs suited to local conditions. The Incheon Metropolitan Office of Education will establish an education innovation model optimized for island regions and work to expand a high-quality educational ecosystem.
In particular, if the two organizations are selected for a public contest program by the Ministry of Education, they plan to form a working-level consultative body and implement detailed projects that reflect the educational conditions and characteristics of island regions. They also plan to develop effective education policies by actively incorporating the opinions of local residents and educators throughout the project.
An Ongjin County official said, "Through this agreement, we will further strengthen our cooperation with the education office so that students in island regions are not excluded from educational opportunities because of their local conditions."
