From Car Prices to Seven Years of Ownership Costs: Renault Korea's Bold Warranty Extension Move

[Financial News] Renault Korea is targeting customers with an extended warranty designed to reduce repair costs after vehicle purchases. The centerpiece of the strategy is a complimentary seven-year or 140,000-kilometer warranty extension for the Renault Filante and the 2027 model-year Grand Koleos. By extending coverage to general parts and linking it to regular inspections, the company aims to expand the benefits of buying a new vehicle into the long-term ownership period.
Renault Korea said on the 23rd that, starting this month, it has been providing customers who purchase the Renault Filante or the 2027 model-year Grand Koleos with a previously paid warranty extension at no charge. If customers meet certain vehicle-maintenance requirements, both body and general parts, as well as major engine and powertrain components, will be covered for up to seven years or 140,000 kilometers.
The most notable aspect is the extent of the coverage expansion for general parts. Under the existing new-vehicle warranty, body and general parts were covered for three years or 60,000 kilometers, while major engine and powertrain components were covered for five years or 100,000 kilometers. With the warranty extension, coverage for general parts increases by four years in terms of time and 80,000 kilometers in terms of distance. Coverage for major engine and powertrain components is extended by two years and 40,000 kilometers, respectively.
Customers who keep their vehicles for an extended period can reduce repair costs for covered parts after the basic warranty expires. The long-term coverage includes not only major components such as the engine, but also general parts whose warranties previously expired relatively early.
Customers can also save the cost of purchasing a warranty extension separately. Based on the prices of the existing paid products, the benefit is worth approximately KRW 1.66 million for the Grand Koleos and KRW 1.74 million for the Renault Filante. Although it is not a cash discount, the offer can reduce post-purchase expenses for customers who had been considering an extended warranty to keep their vehicles for the long term.
However, the warranty extension does not mean that all maintenance costs are waived. To receive the benefit, customers must visit an official service network within 365 days of delivery and undergo the required vehicle maintenance once a year thereafter. Each visit must include a complimentary inspection covering 12 items and a paid engine-oil change.
This structure links warranty coverage with regular maintenance. Customers can maintain their vehicles through annual inspections and engine-oil changes while keeping their warranty benefits, while Renault Korea can continue engaging with them through its official service network after the purchase.
The competitiveness of this service lies not only in the length of the warranty, but also in its ability to reduce costs throughout the vehicle ownership period. The program eliminates the separate fee for purchasing an extended warranty, eases repair-cost burdens after the basic warranty expires, and encourages regular vehicle maintenance through scheduled inspections. Through this approach, Renault Korea is expanding customer benefits beyond the point of sale to include after-sales care.
