"AI Solved the Answers, He Scribbled Them on His Palm": A Brazen Cheating Scheme on a Certified English Test

[Financial News] A test taker who stole an entire exam paper and used artificial intelligence (AI) to obtain the answers in order to secure the certified English test score required to pass the tax accountant examination will ultimately face legal punishment for cheating.
According to legal sources on the 23rd, the Criminal Division 6 of the Western Branch of the Busan District Court, presided over by Judge Kim Se-i, sentenced the defendant, identified as A, to six months in prison, suspended for one year, for theft and interference with business. The court also ordered A to complete 80 hours of community service.
A, who was preparing for the tax accountant examination, devised a meticulous and brazen cheating scheme after failing to achieve the qualifying score of 65.
A committed the offenses twice, in March and April, at a middle school test site in Sasang District, Busan. On the afternoon of each test day, A took advantage of the brief moment when the head of the test center stepped away to check the proctor assignments. A secretly entered an empty classroom, tore open an envelope containing spare exam papers, and fled with an entire test paper.
A's next destinations after obtaining the test paper were a nearby gas station and convenience store. A photographed the stolen paper with a mobile phone and entered the images into Google's advanced AI service, Gemini, to obtain the answers. A then densely wrote the answers generated by the AI on his right palm with a ballpoint pen before calmly entering the test center and taking the exam.
The court stated, "The defendant's crime was repeated twice, and the method was extremely brazen," adding, "The conduct seriously undermined the fairness and credibility of an examination centered on equal opportunity and caused deep frustration among competitors who competed in good faith, making the offense particularly reprehensible."
