"This Is the Way You're Going"... Elderly Man Uses Polite Speech With Visually Impaired Woman and Escorts Her to a Tteokbokki Shop [Warm Stories]

[Financial News] A visually impaired anchor who set out to buy tteokbokki with her guide dog has recently drawn attention after being moved by a series of kind gestures from citizens, from the subway to the bus.

On the 22nd of last month, KBS anchor Heo Woo-ryeong uploaded a video to her YouTube channel, "Wuryeong's Yudio," titled "I Went Out Alone With My Guide Dog and Ended Up Crying Over the Kindness of Strangers."
Heo, who is visually impaired, headed from Sangil-dong Station to Achasan Station on Seoul Subway Line 5 with her guide dog, Hayang-i, to buy tteokbokki.
As Heo wandered around Sangil-dong Station, unsure of which way to go, a woman approached her first and asked, "May I help you?" She then guided Heo to the platform for the train she was trying to catch.
Heo repeatedly bowed her head and said, "Thank you."

After safely boarding the subway and heading to her destination, Achasan Station, Heo asked a fellow passenger, "Is this Achasan Station?" An elderly man who overheard her approached and told her the station name was "Achasan." After getting off with Heo, the man said, "Follow me," and guided her to the exit. He then asked, "Where are you going?" When Heo replied that she was going to get tteokbokki, he said, "That's the direction you're headed. I'll show you all the way there," and accompanied her to her destination.
The elderly man continued giving directions as they walked through the alley, saying, "Come this way." When they reached the shop, he told her, "We've arrived. The tteokbokki shop." Viewers were also struck by how he refrained from touching the guide dog and consistently used polite speech with Heo throughout the encounter.
Heo expressed her gratitude to the elderly man, saying, "I would have wandered around for a long time if you hadn't helped me. Thank you," and, "I was lucky."
The kindness of the bus driver she met on her way home also warmed hearts.

When the bus driver saw Heo preparing to board, he said, "Just a moment. I'll pull up closer for you," making it easier for her to get on.
Heo replied, "Thank you, driver. Drive safely." After she took her seat, the bus driver asked, "May I depart?" Heo answered, "Yes, thank you."
Heo said, "I was only going out to buy a piece of tteokbokki, but it was a day when I received an abundance of warmth on the subway, on the bus, and at the restaurant." She added, "I will never forget everyone I met that day. The positive influence of so many people became a source of gentle courage for me, too."
