 【Financial News, New York (United States) — Reporter Choi Jong-geun】President Lee Jae Myung, who is visiting New York, United States, to attend the UN General Assembly, met with UN Secretary-General António Guterres at United Nations Headquarters that day after delivering his keynote address at the 81st UN General Assembly. This was their third meeting, following an informal conversation on the sidelines of the Group of Seven (G7) summit last June and a meeting held during the UN General Assembly in September.
According to Sung Ki-hong, senior secretary for public relations and communication at Cheong Wa Dae, President Lee praised Secretary-General Guterres for his leadership over the past decade in upholding the UN Charter, the principles of international law and multilateralism.
President Lee particularly emphasized that the South Korean government is working to create a Korean Peninsula where North and South Korea peacefully coexist and grow together, based on the belief that "peace that does not require fighting is the most certain form of security." He added that he looked forward to active communication and cooperation with the UN throughout this process.
Secretary-General Guterres stated that he strongly supports the South Korean government's overall foreign policy, particularly its policies aimed at achieving peace on the Korean Peninsula. He also responded that the UN would continue seeking every possible way to contribute so that these efforts could bear fruit.
