Full Moon Hidden by Clouds, Rain on Return Journey... Jeju Faces Gloomy Chuseok Weather

Financial News | Jeju — Reporter Jung Yong-bok: This year's Chuseok in Jeju Province is expected to offer little chance of seeing the full moon because of cloud cover. The holiday will begin with mostly cloudy or overcast conditions, followed by rain starting on the 26th, the day after Chuseok, and continuing through the morning of the 27th.
According to the Jeju Regional Meteorological Office on the 23rd, Jeju Province will be mostly clear that day, although mountain areas and areas east of Hallasan will occasionally see increased cloud cover. The 24th is expected to be mostly cloudy, while the 25th, Chuseok Day, will be generally overcast.
The turning point in the holiday weather will come on the 26th. The Korean Meteorological Administration expects Jeju Province to remain on the periphery of a high-pressure system on the 24th and 25th before coming under the influence of a low-pressure system approaching from the west on the 26th. Rain is likely to begin in Jeju Province on the 26th and continue through the morning of the 27th.
Although no direct rain is forecast for Jeju Province on Chuseok Day, the generally cloudy skies are expected to make full-moon viewing difficult. Anyone planning to watch the moon in Jeju Province on Chuseok night should check the weather conditions again.
Daytime temperatures in Jeju Province will remain in the mid-to-upper 20s throughout the holiday. In Jeju City, the morning low on the 24th is expected to be 21°C, with a daytime high of 26°C. Temperatures will range from 21°C to 28°C on the 25th and from 22°C to 26°C on the 26th, when rain is forecast.
In Seogwipo, temperatures are forecast to range from 21°C to 27°C on the 24th, from 22°C to 27°C on the 25th, and from 22°C to 27°C on the 26th. In Seongsan, temperatures are expected to range from 21°C to 27°C on the 24th, from 21°C to 26°C on the 25th, and from 22°C to 26°C on the 26th.
Temperatures themselves will be similar to or slightly higher than average for this time of year. However, the gap between daytime and nighttime temperatures could widen to around 10°C nationwide, so people traveling to their hometowns and other travelers should take care of their health.
Weather in the latter part of the holiday could affect maritime routes to and from Jeju Province. The Korean Meteorological Administration expects high waves of 1.5–2.5 meters in the waters off Jeju Province from the 26th through the 27th. On the 26th, southeasterly winds will shift to southerly winds in the coastal waters off Jeju Province as rain falls, and the area is expected to remain under the influence of the low-pressure system through the 27th.
As of the morning of the 23rd, caution was still advised over rough seas, particularly in the southern and eastern waters off Jeju Province. Waves were forecast to reach up to 3 meters in the southern and eastern coastal waters of Jeju Province and up to 3.5 meters in the southeastern inner offshore waters.
With rain and high waves expected on the 26th and 27th, passengers using Jeju International Airport and ferries are advised to check whether their flights and vessels are operating before departure.
