A story recently emerged about someone who went to a bank to claim a third-prize Lotto 6/45 payout, only to discover that the ticket had been lost.
On the 21st, A posted on an online community that a Lotto 6/45 ticket purchased by A's father, who is undergoing treatment, had won third prize. The prize amounted to 1,535,105 won.
A said the father had regularly spent approximately 20,000 won on Lotto 6/45 tickets every week and, after learning of the win, wanted to buy toys for his grandchildren.
The problem arose after A arrived at the bank to claim the prize on the father's behalf.
A said, "I took a number ticket at the bank, but when I checked my pocket, the lottery ticket was gone." A also said that the father's name and resident registration number had been written on the back of the ticket.
If someone else finds the lost ticket and claims the prize first, the original purchaser may have difficulty receiving the money even if they later assert ownership. Donghaeng Lottery also advises that it may be difficult to reissue the prize in such cases.

People should also be cautious about posting photos of lottery tickets on social media or online. Information needed to claim the prize, such as the barcode, could be exposed.
Donghaeng Lottery advises winners to sign the back of the ticket after confirming the win and store it in a safe place.

Meanwhile, if a ticket is damaged, the prize can be claimed only if at least half of the original remains and the ticket can be read by the electronic system. The payment period is one year from the start of prize payments. Once that period expires, the winnings are transferred to the Lottery Fund.
