Lee Calls for "Swift Resumption of North Korea–United States Dialogue"; Also Proposes "Dialogue Among the Parties Directly Concerned" Involving South and North Korea, the United States and China

President Lee, who is visiting New York in the United States to attend the UN General Assembly, said in a keynote address at the UN Headquarters on the 22nd, "Above all, the most essential task is to end the long-standing war on the Korean Peninsula and establish a peace regime."
He continued, "A peace regime on the Korean Peninsula is a key task whose necessity South and North Korea, as well as countries concerned such as the United States and China, have long shared an understanding of and discussed together."
President Lee also referred to President Trump's recent decision, assessing that it had created the possibility of change in discussions on a peace regime on the Korean Peninsula.
He particularly stressed that resuming the North Korea–United States dialogue should serve as an opportunity to get discussions on a peace regime moving again. President Lee said, "South Korea will work to lay the groundwork for the long-stalled North Korea–United States dialogue to resume swiftly and develop into dialogue among the parties directly concerned aimed at ending the war on the Korean Peninsula and transitioning to a peace regime."
