They Share One Shelf at a Time and Fill It to Their Tastes... Youngpoong Bookstore and Yeonnam Seoga Collaborate

[Financial News] Youngpoong Bookstore and independent bookstore Yeonnam Seoga are introducing books selected by the other bookstore at their respective locations. Each is giving the other one shelf compartment and entrusting it with the book selection.
According to Youngpoong Bookstore on the 22nd, Yeonnam Seoga is the first partner in its independent bookstore collaboration project, “One Shelf, Two Bookstores.” A shelf curated by Yeonnam Seoga was installed at Youngpoong Bookstore in Seoul Forest on the 1st. Meanwhile, the second Yeonnam Seoga branch, which opened in Yeonhui-dong, Seoul, on the 20th, now features a Youngpoong Bookstore shelf.
Yeonnam Seoga is a bookstore where publishers, authors and individuals who love books each take charge of one shelf compartment and fill it with books that reflect their tastes. At Youngpoong Bookstore in Seoul Forest, it is presenting three novels featuring a bookstore in a 40-centimeter-by-40-centimeter compartment.
The selected books are Hwang Bo-reum’s “Welcome to the Hyunam-dong Bookshop,” Gabrielle Zevin’s “The Bookstore on the Island” and Lee Do-woo’s “I’ll Go to You When the Weather Is Nice.”
Youngpoong Bookstore placed books by three authors it selected as its “Author of the Month” at the second Yeonnam Seoga branch. They are Suyong Joh’s “The Sense of Work,” selected in September; Cheon Myeong-kwan’s “Accordion,” selected in August; and Park Gom-hee’s “A Class on Becoming Wealthy Through Pensions,” selected in June.
“Author of the Month” is a program that has featured one author and introduced the author’s works and story each month since 2022, with the merchandise planner, or MD, in charge making the selection.
Youngpoong Bookstore has traditionally operated shelves featuring independently published works. This time, it expanded the initiative through a collaboration with an independent bookstore.
Yeonnam Seoga grouped books around the common theme of “bookstores,” while Youngpoong Bookstore focused on “authors.” Even when each shelf compartment is filled according to a particular selection criterion, the resulting collections differ, allowing readers to glimpse the tastes of each bookstore.
The Yeonnam Seoga shelf at Youngpoong Bookstore in the Seoul Forest Community Center will remain in operation through October 27. Youngpoong Bookstore plans to expand the collaboration to independent bookstores in other regions.
Jung Hye-won, a manager on Youngpoong Bookstore’s Brand Strategy Team, said the project also introduces the perspective of independent bookstores, adding, "We will create spaces where more book culture can be discovered in the future."
