Trump Says, "U.S. Officials Met Iranian Delegation at United Nations Headquarters"; Further Talks Set for 23rd

U.S. President Donald Trump said on the 22nd (local time) that the United States and Iran had held direct negotiations.
According to foreign media outlets including the Financial Times (FT), President Trump said that U.S. officials and an Iranian delegation had met on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York. He added, "It was a very good meeting," and said further talks would be held on the 23rd.
Trump said during a summit with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, in response to reporters' questions, "The talks with Iran went very well. They ended an hour ago," adding, "It was a meeting that lasted three hours."
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi are believed to have taken part in the talks for Iran, while the United States was represented by Trump's special envoy Steven Charles Witkoff and his eldest son-in-law, Jared Kushner.
Trump said, "Iran has two choices. One is complete destruction, and the other is the potential to become great," claiming, "Iran can become a great nation if it simply reaches an agreement with the United States."
He added, "The talks were very productive. Additional talks are scheduled in the very near future." He also stressed, "They had very good talks. We'll see what comes of it," while emphasizing, "What is clear is that reaching an agreement is also in Iran's interest."
Earlier, Trump said in his address to the UN General Assembly that the United States had two choices. He stressed that the choices facing the United States were "whether to reach an agreement with Iran and allow it to rebuild and become a nation far greater than ever before" or "whether to quickly annihilate Iran and deny it the opportunity ever again to kill people and destroy countries." He added, "I believe an agreement will be reached immediately after the midterm elections."
