Who Will Attend the Trump-Xi Dinner? Top U.S. CEOs Converge on Washington

Executives from NVIDIA, OpenAI, Google, Apple and Tesla, which lead the artificial intelligence (AI) and advanced technology industries, are expected to attend in large numbers. As a result, the U.S.-China race for technological supremacy over AI and semiconductors is expected to emerge as a key issue in the summit diplomacy, alongside tariffs and rare earths.
CNBC reported on the 22nd, local time, that Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella is expected to attend a dinner scheduled for the 24th in Washington, D.C., during Xi's visit to the United States. The list of expected attendees provided by senior U.S. officials also includes NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and Google CEO Sundar Pichai.
Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, Apple CEO Tim Cook, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and Dell Technologies CEO Michael Dell are also expected to attend. Citigroup CEO Jane Fraser is on the list as a representative of the financial sector. The dinner will bring together business leaders representing key U.S. industries, from AI semiconductors and generative AI to smartphones, electric vehicles, space and finance.
The list of Chinese business leaders, however, has not yet been finalized. China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that Xi will visit the United States from the 23rd to the 25th, but it has not released the names of business leaders accompanying him.
According to Reuters, representatives from BYD, the world's largest electric vehicle maker, smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi, and battery makers CATL and Gotion are being considered as potential attendees. Home appliance maker Hisense, auto parts manufacturer Wanxiang, state-owned Bank of China (BOC), and state-owned agricultural and food company COFCO are also on the list of candidates.
The business leaders' dinner comes as U.S.-China economic relations are being reshaped around advanced technologies and supply chains, moving beyond tariffs. In recent years, both countries have placed companies from the other country on various regulatory lists and restricted their business activities, citing national security and other reasons. In particular, as U.S. export controls on AI semiconductors and advanced technologies bound for China intersect with China's controls on rare earths and critical minerals, the interests of businesses have become directly linked to negotiations between the leaders of the two countries.
