Harmony of Tradition and Modernity... Seoul Metropolitan Government Opens Call for Proposals for the '11th Seoul Excellent Hanok Certification Program'

[Financial News] The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 23rd that it is launching the '11th Seoul Excellent Hanok Certification System' to discover outstanding buildings that combine the charm of traditional Hanok with modern conveniences.
Marking the 10th anniversary of the certification system this year, this open call runs until the 21st of next month and accepts applications in two categories: 'Hanok' and 'Hanok architectural style'. The Hanok category is open to Hanoks located in Seoul that have been built, extensively renovated, or remodeled since 2016 and have been completed for at least one year. The Hanok architectural style category is open to buildings located in Seoul that possess some of the key features, such as traditional Korean wooden structures and roof frames.
Certified Hanoks are provided with annual regular inspections for five years and support for minor repairs up to 4 million won per building, while architects who participated in the design are awarded an interior certification plaque. In addition, the Seoul Metropolitan Government plans to continuously manage quality by conducting re-certification reviews for existing certified Hanoks.
In addition, the city plans to hold an information session on the contest at Bukchon Hanokcheong on the 8th of next month to provide details on the application process and benefits, and to distribute a photo book commemorating the 10th anniversary of the certification. Further details regarding the contest can be found on the Seoul Hanok Portal website, and the finally selected outstanding Hanoks will be announced following on-site evaluations and public voting.
