"Platform Screen Doors Stop Working" 15 Minutes After Service Resumes... Trains Pass Ewha Womans University Station Without Stopping After Fire in Line 2 Equipment Room

[Financial News] A fire broke out in an equipment room at Ewha Womans University Station on Seoul Subway Line 2, prompting trains to pass through without stopping. Although service briefly resumed after the flames were brought under control, a second disruption occurred shortly afterward when none of the platform screen doors opened, forcing trains to bypass the station again.
According to Seoul Metro and fire authorities on the 22nd, smoke began filling the platform's uninterruptible power supply (UPS) room at Ewha Womans University Station at around 8:10 p.m. after a fire of unknown origin broke out. Police and firefighters immediately arrived at the scene and evacuated people from the station. Fifteen fire trucks and 53 personnel were deployed, and the blaze was brought under control with initial firefighting completed at around 8:25 p.m., just 15 minutes later. No casualties were reported thanks to the prompt evacuation.
To ensure passenger safety, Seoul Metro began having trains traveling in both directions on Line 2 pass through Ewha Womans University Station without stopping at 8:24 p.m. Following firefighting and cleanup operations, train service returned to normal at around 9:03 p.m., approximately 40 minutes later.
However, the situation changed again at around 9:18 p.m., approximately 15 minutes after service resumed, when all of the platform screen doors malfunctioned and failed to open. To protect passengers and facilitate the necessary response, Seoul Metro once again changed operations so that trains passed through Ewha Womans University Station without stopping in either direction.
Seoul Metro is currently carrying out restoration and final repair work on the platform screen doors at the station. A company official said, "After the firefighting operation for the earlier blaze, all of the platform screen doors failed to open, so we had no choice but to resume having trains pass through without stopping." The official added, "We are investigating the exact cause of the malfunction, including whether it was connected to the preceding fire in the equipment room."
