U.S. "Open to Talks with Iran"···Prerequisite Is 'Abandoning Nuclear Weapons'

[Financial News] Marco Rubio, U.S. Secretary of State, said that the United States could resume dialogue with Iran during the week of the UN General Assembly's high-level session.
In an interview with the U.S. National Broadcasting Company (NBC) on September 22 local time, Rubio said, "We are open (to dialogue with Iran)."
He said, "Nothing is scheduled at this point," but added, "If it could lead to some positive outcome, and if there were a prospect of ultimately achieving the central objective of all this, then we would certainly be open to it (dialogue)."
Rubio explained that the "objective" he referred to was "the fact that Iran can never have nuclear weapons." This was interpreted to mean that talks with Iran could resume only on the condition that it abandon nuclear weapons.
Earlier, the Iranian government had also signaled its willingness to communicate with the United States on the occasion of this year's UN General Assembly.
