Dongjak District Wins Both Institutional and Individual Government Awards on Dementia Overcoming Day

[Financial News] Dongjak District announced on the 22nd that it had received both an institutional commendation and an individual commendation at the 2026 19th Dementia Overcoming Day Government Awards, organized by the Ministry of Health and Welfare (MOHW), to mark the 19th Dementia Overcoming Day. 
The government awards were given after assessing dementia prevention and management achievements and the performance of outstanding programs at Dementia Relief Centers, Dementia Relief Hospitals, and Public Nursing Hospitals nationwide.
Dongjak District won the institutional award in the outstanding dementia program category and the individual award in the dementia prevention and management category, respectively.
The district has worked to prevent and manage dementia through various locally focused services, including the Memory Walk Program, the Dementia Relief Shuttle Bus, and support for dementia-related medical expenses.
The Memory Walk Program has been held every Tuesday at Sayuksin Park since March this year. It offered various cognitive-enhancement activities, including walking for dementia prevention, exercise, laughter therapy, fitness assessments, and mission-based yut games, drawing active participation from residents.
The Dementia Relief Shuttle Bus was operated to help residents who have difficulty using public transportation. More than 27,000 people have used it to date.
The district also provided dementia screening fees and treatment and management costs to people aged 70 and over who needed support with dementia-related medical expenses. This established an early intervention and practical management system for high-risk groups.
The individual award went to Lim Se-hoon, a team leader at the Dongjak Dementia Relief Center. Lim was recognized for overseeing early screenings and dementia patient management and for contributing to dementia prevention and the strengthening of the community safety net.
Dongjak District Mayor Ryu Sam-young said, "It is meaningful that our district's integrated dementia management efforts have been recognized nationwide on the occasion of the 19th Dementia Overcoming Day. We will continue building a seamless care system so that dementia patients and their families can enjoy their daily lives with peace of mind."
