Daegu Metropolitan City will activate its emergency medical care system during the Chuseok holiday, from the 24th to the 27th, making every effort to minimize gaps in medical services so residents can spend the holiday with peace of mind.
Deputy Mayor for Administrative Affairs Kim Jeong-gi said, "Emergency rooms and specialized pediatric emergency medical centers are intended for critical patients, so when symptoms are mild, please visit an open hospital or clinic and pharmacy first." He emphasized, "We will maintain a seamless response system throughout the holiday, from emergency medical care to infectious disease response, so residents can enjoy a safe and comfortable holiday."
The city will first establish comprehensive medical and disease-control situation rooms at 10 locations, including city and district and county public health centers, to monitor in real time the operations of hospitals, clinics and pharmacies that remain open during the holiday. It will closely monitor disasters, emergencies and trends in respiratory and waterborne infectious diseases, while maintaining a 24-hour emergency response system for immediate action in the event of an outbreak.
In particular, 25 emergency medical institutions and facilities will operate around the clock throughout the holiday. To prepare for the occurrence of critically ill emergency patients, the city plans to actively operate Daegu’s responsibility-based emergency medical care system, ensuring smooth coordination from patient transport through treatment.
A total of 380 hospitals and clinics and 404 pharmacies will be open during the holiday. On Chuseok Day (the 25th), when access to medical care is more limited, 76 hospitals and clinics and 101 pharmacies will open with the cooperation of the Daegu Medical Association, the Daegu Pharmaceutical Association and others, helping reduce inconvenience for residents seeking care.
Daegu Medical Center, a public medical institution, and public health centers will also participate in emergency medical care during the holiday to ensure residents do not experience difficulties accessing medical services.
The city is also preparing for potential gaps in pediatric care. A total of 43 pediatric care facilities will be open during the holiday, including six Moonlight Children’s Hospitals designated and operated by the city and one pediatric care facility serving medically underserved areas at night and on holidays.
Critically ill and emergency pediatric patients with urgent symptoms such as seizures, decreased consciousness or breathing difficulties can receive care 24 hours a day at the pediatric specialized emergency medical center at Kyungpook National University Chilgok Hospital. Those with mild symptoms such as fever or a cold should first visit a nearby pediatric care facility.
Information on hospitals, clinics and pharmacies that will be open during the holiday can be found through the Emergency Medical Portal, the Emergency Medical Information app, the Health and Welfare Consultation Center (129), the Emergency Situation Management Center (119), the Dalgubeol Call Center (120), and the websites of the city, districts and counties.
