Suncheon City to Move into New City Hall from Mid-October; Demolition of Current City Hall to Begin in December

【Financial News Suncheon = Hwang Tae-jong, Reporter】Suncheon City will begin moving into the new city hall in mid-October and complete the move by the end of November. Starting in December, it will begin the second phase of construction, including demolition of the current city hall.
 According to Suncheon City on the 22nd, it recently conducted a pre-completion inspection of the new city hall ahead of the planned move-in in mid-October. A total of 57 people from relevant departments, the construction management team and the contractor participated in the inspection. A pre-completion inspection is a procedure for checking the condition of the construction work and whether the facilities are operating properly before the formal completion inspection.
 During the inspection, Suncheon City checked the condition of the building’s interior and exterior finishes, as well as the normal operation of major facilities, including electrical, mechanical, fire protection and communications systems. It plans to address any deficiencies identified before completion.
 A Suncheon City official emphasized, "As the new city hall will be a representative public facility in Suncheon that citizens will use for many years, we will carefully check its quality and safety through the final stages."
 Suncheon City will begin moving departments in stages from mid-October and plans to complete the move by the end of November. It will also step up the handover of facilities to ensure the stable operation of the new city hall. The city will receive instructions from the contractor on operating and maintaining major electrical, communications, fire protection and mechanical facilities. Designated staff responsible for managing the city hall will participate directly and familiarize themselves with the operating procedures, inspection requirements and maintenance guidelines for each facility.
 The handover will proceed in stages through trial operation of each facility and the stabilization of operations, with the process scheduled to continue through January 2027.
 In addition, beginning in December, the city will launch the second phase of construction, which involves complex and challenging work, starting with demolition of the current city hall and including construction of an underground parking lot and a central park.
 A Suncheon City official said, "We will thoroughly manage not only the move into the new city hall but also the handover of facilities and the second phase of construction to complete a city hall that citizens can use safely and conveniently."
