Former KFA President Chung Mong-gyu "Regrets Police Decision to Refer Case... Never Deceived Board"

[Financial News] Former Korea Football Association (KFA) President Chung Mong-gyu said on the 22nd that he "deeply regrets" the police decision to refer the case concerning the appointment of former national team head coach Hong Myung-bo.
Former President Chung issued a statement that day, saying, "I sincerely apologize for causing concern among the people and football fans," and made the remarks.
Former President Chung explained, "I fully explained during the investigation that the national team head coach appointment was carried out lawfully through the proper procedures," adding, "There was no reason to deceive the board, and I certainly never did so."
He added, "I will fully explain the facts during any further investigation by prosecutors or other authorities so that misunderstandings can be resolved and the truth can be revealed."
The Financial Crimes Investigation Unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency's Major Crimes Investigation Division referred former KFA President Chung Mong-gyu, former KFA technical director Lee Lim-saeng, and former KFA full-time vice president Kim Jeong-bae to the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office without detention on the 22nd on charges including obstruction of business by deceptive means.
Police determined that the three men improperly interfered with the national team strengthening committee's work during the head coach appointment process and then entered false information in materials submitted for board deliberation to conceal their actions.
However, police decided not to refer former head coach Hong Myung-bo after determining that no evidence had been found showing that he directly participated in the head coach appointment process involving the national team strengthening committee or the board.
