[Breaking] Im Seong-keun gets one year in prison, suspended for two years, on appeal over perjury related to alleged lobbying to secure his release

[Financial News] Im Seong-keun, the former commander of the 1st Marine Division who was sentenced to prison in the first trial for allegedly giving false testimony before the National Assembly regarding allegations of lobbying to secure his release, received a suspended sentence in the appeals trial.
The Criminal Division 2-3 of the Seoul High Court, comprising High Court Judges Kim Young-hyun, Baek Seung-yeop and Hwang Seung-tae, sentenced Im to one year in prison, suspended for two years, for violating the Act on Testimony, Appraisal, etc. before the National Assembly.
Im, the former division commander, was suspected of being excluded from the list of suspects in the case involving the death of a Marine in the line of duty because of his close relationship with Lee Jong-ho, the former head of Blackpearl Invest, who was known to manage Kim Keon Hee's accounts. He was indicted on charges of falsely testifying at the Legislation and Judiciary Committee of the National Assembly's annual audit in October 2025, claiming that he had never met Lee, who figures in the allegations of lobbying to secure his release. The trial court found Im guilty on all charges and sentenced him to one year and six months in prison.
