Miral Welfare Foundation Helen Keller Center Provides Medical Supplies to 23 Children with Visual and Hearing Impairments

[Financial News] The Miral Welfare Foundation Helen Keller Center provided medical consumables, including cochlear implant batteries, to 23 children with visual and hearing impairments. The purpose is to alleviate the burden of purchasing consumables that are continuously incurred during the process of healthcare.
According to the Miral Welfare Foundation on the 22nd, the center delivered medical supplies worth approximately 12 million won from last August to this month.
The beneficiaries are children under the age of 18 with visual and hearing impairments, as well as children with CHARGE syndrome and Usher syndrome. Through a screening process, priority was given to children who had not previously received medical supplies support.
Deafblindness is a condition in which both visual and auditory functions are impaired. Some children require the continuous use of medical devices to maintain their health and receive treatment. Among the related consumables, there are items that are not covered by insurance or are expensive, placing a burden on families.
Even if medical devices are secured, the cost of consumables required for their use continues to accrue. This is why the costs associated with continuous use, as well as the availability of the device, must be considered together during the support process.
The center provided nasal irrigators, IV tubing, cochlear implant batteries, and disposable syringes tailored to the specific circumstances and needs of each household. One family among the beneficiaries attended the handover ceremony held at the center in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, on the 21st, as a representative.
Hong Yu-mi, Director of the Helen Keller Center, said, "I hope this support will be of practical help in supporting children's healthy daily lives and relieving the financial burden on their families."
Meanwhile, the Helen Keller Center is a support organization for people with visual and hearing impairments established by the Miral Welfare Foundation in 2019. It was selected by the Ministry of Health and Welfare (MOHW) in 2024 as the dedicated agency for supporting people with visual and hearing impairments, and is carrying out projects such as child and family support and professional training.
