[Financial News, Jeonnam-Gwangju = Reporter Hwang Tae-jong] Gwangju Global Motors (GGM) said on the 22nd that the large influx of young job seekers into its second-half open recruitment drive for entry-level employees once again proved that it is a 'source of hope for jobs in the Jeonnam-Gwangju region.'
GGM said that 1,691 people applied for 24 positions in its '2026 Second Recruitment Round for Technical and General Entry-Level Employees,' which closed on the 21st, resulting in an average competition ratio of 70.5 to 1.
GGM analyzed that this vividly reflected the severe employment difficulties in the Jeonnam-Gwangju region, caused by simultaneous downturns in the electronics and construction industries, the closure of a beverage conglomerate's Gwangju plant, and the consolidation of petrochemical companies in Yeosu.
It also emphasized that, as the so-called 'exodus from Jeonnam-Gwangju' continues—with young people leaving for the Seoul metropolitan area amid regional employment difficulties and a weakening manufacturing base—GGM is being viewed as a practical alternative and a 'symbol of hope' that provides quality jobs to young people in the region.
Since its establishment in 2019, GGM has recruited more than 600 entry-level employees through 2021, when it began full-scale vehicle production. It has continued to hire more than 10 employees annually, bringing relief to young people in the region amid an intense employment freeze.
In particular, strong domestic and overseas sales of the Hyundai Casper electric vehicle have significantly increased employment. After hiring 102 people in 2024 and 69 in 2025, GGM is recruiting around 80 new employees this year to fill positions created by facility expansion and vacancies. It is now regarded as a leading company creating mutually beneficial jobs.
A GGM official said, "The large number of applicants, including people from diverse educational backgrounds, is understood to reflect recognition of GGM's future growth potential as it becomes a global contract vehicle manufacturer, as well as its pleasant working environment." The official added, "We will continue to make every effort to provide more quality jobs to young people in the region."
GGM plans to announce the final successful applicants in November after conducting artificial intelligence (AI) competency assessments, document screening, interviews, and health checkups.
