[Financial News] Dongwon Industries is launching an initiative to promote consumption of locally caught seafood.
According to Dongwon Industries on the 22nd, it will jointly host the "Taste of Busan's Sea: K-Seafood Win-Win Pop-Up" with Busan Metropolitan City Government and the Large Purse Seine Fisheries Cooperative from the 26th through October 1 at Hyundai Department Store Pangyo Branch in Seongnam-si, Gyeonggi Province.
The event is intended to support local fishermen who are struggling as rising food prices have dampened consumer sentiment toward seafood.
The centerpiece of the event will be a super-sized domestic Pacific bluefin tuna breakdown show. A premium Pacific bluefin tuna weighing more than 100 kilograms and caught off the coast of Busan will be broken down on site every day and sold in limited quantities. Consumers will be able to see and taste super-sized domestic Pacific bluefin tuna, which is rarely available to them.
Domestic mackerel, Busan's city fish and a national favorite, will also be presented in new forms tailored to younger consumers. Dongwon Industries will sell innovative dishes such as rolled mackerel sushi and pot rice.
Busan Metropolitan City Government and the cooperative are also joining the effort. The cooperative will provide fresh mackerel and other products selected for the promotion.
A Dongwon Industries official said, "We will continue to lead efforts to promote the excellence of the proudly Korean K-seafood industry, broaden its consumer base, and drive the development of the domestic seafood industry and the shared growth of fishermen."
