"Mr. President," President Lee Jae Myung Offers Chuseok Greetings in New York's Koreatown

Financial News, New York (U.S.)—Choi Jong-geun, reporterPresident Lee Jae Myung and his wife, Kim Hye-kyung, visited New York's Koreatown on Sept. 21 (local time), greeting members of the Korean community and interacting with local residents. The presidential couple, who were visiting New York to attend the UN General Assembly, made a direct visit to the local Korean community.
According to Ahn Gwi-ryeong, deputy spokesperson for Cheong Wa Dae, President Lee and his wife toured Manhattan's Koreatown while listening to an explanation from Cha Ji-hoon, South Korea's ambassador to the United Nations. They also showed interest in Korean products, including cosmetics displayed in stores with Korean-language signs.
As the couple walked through the streets, members of the Korean community greeted them by saying, "Thank you for all your hard work." Ahead of Chuseok, President Lee and his wife also offered holiday greetings to Korean community members living away from their homeland.
Local residents and tourists also welcomed them by shouting, "Mr. President!" The presidential couple waved in response and agreed to requests from residents to take commemorative photos.
A Korean student who said he was studying at the Culinary Institute of America (CIA) took a photo with President Lee and said, "I should send it to my parents in Korea." The student also highlighted the growing popularity of K-food locally, noting that a Korean cuisine-related program had been introduced at the school this year.
The presidential couple later had dinner at a Korean restaurant, eating dolsotbap, cabbage soup, taro soup, braised pomfret, and assorted jeon.
Ahn Gwi-ryeong, the deputy spokesperson, said, "Ahead of Chuseok, it was a meaningful time to exchange warm greetings with members of the Korean community who have put down roots in an unfamiliar land and built a Korean community, while directly witnessing the standing of Korean culture that has become part of everyday life in New York."
