Xinhua News Agency: "China-U.S. Summit Will Open a New Page in Bilateral Relations" [Lee Seok-woo's China 24]

[Financial News] Ahead of Chinese President Xi Jinping's state visit to the United States, China's state-run media assessed that the upcoming China-U.S. summit could open a new chapter in bilateral relations.
In a commentary on the 22nd, China's state-run Xinhua News Agency said, "President Xi's visit to the United States will be his first in three years," adding, "The two leaders' successive visits to each other's countries within six months carry historic and landmark significance."
President Xi will make a three-day state visit to the United States from the 23rd to the 25th and hold a summit with U.S. President Donald Trump on the 24th.
Since the start of President Trump's second term, the two leaders have met in Busan, Korea, last October, and in Beijing, China, this May. They have also continued to speak by phone and exchange letters.
Xinhua News Agency reported, "At the Beijing summit last May, the two leaders agreed to establish 'a constructive strategic stability relationship between China and the United States.'"
It explained that this means proactive stability centered on cooperation, goodwill-based stability founded on restrained competition, everyday stability achieved through manageable conflict, and lasting stability that offers hope for peace.
The agency also stressed, "Summit diplomacy is the compass and stabilizing mechanism for China-U.S. relations," adding, "The two leaders have strengthened mutual trust through strategic communication and coordinated the direction of bilateral relations."
It further argued, "The essence of China-U.S. economic and trade relations is mutual benefit," and said, "The two countries should strengthen dialogue and negotiations, expand areas of cooperation, and reduce factors of conflict."
According to Chinese statistics, the value of China-U.S. trade in goods rose 13.7% year on year in the second quarter of this year. By July, the cumulative number of U.S.-funded companies established in China had surpassed 84,000.
Xinhua News Agency cited China's market size, industrial networks, and innovation capabilities, assessing that companies from both countries have significant potential for cooperation in areas such as green energy, the digital economy, artificial intelligence (AI), and biopharmaceuticals.
People-to-people exchanges and exchanges among young people were also presented as important foundations supporting bilateral relations.
During his visit to San Francisco in 2023, President Xi announced a plan to invite 50,000 young Americans to China over the following five years. Xinhua News Agency reported that more than 50,000 young people from all 50 U.S. states had visited China since then.
The agency argued, "China-U.S. relations concern not only the well-being of more than 1.7 billion people in the two countries but also the interests of more than 8 billion people worldwide," adding, "If the two countries fulfill their historical responsibilities as major powers, they can open a path toward proper coexistence in a new era."
