Busan Kyungsang College Establishes Department of Public Procurement, Recruiting 25 First-Year Students

[Financial News] Busan Kyungsang College is taking steps to cultivate talent who will lead the future of public procurement administration in South Korea.
Busan Kyungsang College said on the 22nd that it had established the first Department of Public Procurement in the Busan area and would begin recruiting its first students for the 2027 academic year.
The college will admit 25 students in its inaugural recruitment. Applicants must be company employees or adult learners aged 25 or older as of March 1, 2027, who are passionate about procurement administration and public services.
To encourage participation by executives and employees of procurement suppliers in Busan, Ulsan, and South Gyeongsang Province, classes will be offered on weekends.
Adult learners will also receive 50% scholarship support, while linkage with national scholarships will substantially reduce the burden of tuition.
The deadline for the first round of early admissions to the Department of Public Procurement at Busan Kyungsang College for the 2027 academic year is the 30th.

Professor Son Gwang-ho of Busan Kyungsang College emphasized, "The need for systematic professional education in public procurement, where hundreds of trillions of won in national budgets are executed each year, is higher than ever." He added, "The Department of Public Procurement, which is being established in Busan for the first time, will become an important milestone in strengthening the competitiveness of the local community and the national economy."
Public procurement is regarded as a key administrative field that determines the efficiency and transparency of national fiscal management, going beyond the simple purchase of goods.
The process of procuring the goods, services, and construction work needed by the government and public institutions represents a vast economic ecosystem involving some 200 trillion won in national budgets each year. Highly trained professionals are essential at its core.
Although demand for procurement specialists is growing rapidly each year in both public institutions and private companies, there are still very few formal educational institutions that provide systematic training in the field.
Most procurement practitioners have built their experience by learning on the job or relying on short-term training programs. This has been identified as a clear limitation in improving their expertise in procurement administration and ethical standards.
Busan Kyungsang College plans to fill this gap by establishing the Department of Public Procurement for the 2027 academic year and raising procurement competitiveness at both the local and national levels. 
The college aims to cultivate key talent who will lead public procurement administration across the country, with Busan as their base.
The greatest strength of the Department of Public Procurement at Busan Kyungsang College is its field-oriented practical training curriculum.
Rather than merely learning concepts from textbooks, the department's central goal is to train true professionals who can enter the workforce immediately upon graduation.
To that end, the department will provide intensive training in essential practical skills such as procurement, accounting, and taxation. It will also maximize students' ability to adapt to the workplace through hands-on courses that directly use actual e-procurement systems, including the Korea Online e-Procurement System (KONEPS) (G2B), the heart of South Korea's electronic procurement system.
By combining theory and practice in a balanced curriculum, the department plans to train future-oriented professionals who can respond proactively to the rapidly changing environment of procurement administration.
Based on a systematic curriculum that meets relevant Ministry of Education standards, Busan Kyungsang College will provide full support so that each student can grow into a professional with core competencies in public procurement.
The trained professionals are expected to handle a wide range of related duties at public institutions, local governments, administrative agencies, and public corporations, including purchasing and procurement, as well as bidding, contracting, and delivery for procurement-related private companies and businesses participating in KONEPS. Their work will also cover general administrative and office functions, budget execution, contract management, and audits.
Professor Son Gwang-ho emphasized, "The Department of Public Procurement at Busan Kyungsang College is building a comprehensive support system that goes beyond education and connects directly to employment after graduation." He added, "Through a specialized university-industry cooperation network with local public institutions and procurement-related companies, we will provide students with opportunities for field training while they are enrolled and actively support their employment after graduation."
