From Pseudonymized Information to Synthetic Data: Gangwon Technopark Offers Practical Data-Use Training

[Financial News, Chuncheon—Kim Gi-seop] As synthetic data draws attention as a way to analyze data more freely while protecting personal information, Gangwon Technopark has organized hands-on training on creating and validating synthetic data.
According to Gangwon Technopark on the 22nd, the Gangwon Pseudonymized Information Utilization Support Center held the 2026 Practical Training on Synthetic Data Generation and Use at the training facility of its Wonju support center on the 18th. Practitioners responsible for personal information and data-use operations at universities, hospitals, companies, and public institutions took part.
Synthetic data is artificially generated by learning the statistical characteristics and structure of real-world data. It is attracting attention because it can be used for data analysis, research, and artificial intelligence (AI) model development while minimizing the direct use of original datasets containing personal information.
The training was organized as part of a specialized hands-on program designed to promote the use of pseudonymized information. Tailored to the practical need to address personal information protection and data use simultaneously, it covered the entire process—from generating synthetic data to validating its safety and utility and writing a results report.
Participants compared the distributions and characteristics of original and synthetic data. They also assessed whether the generated synthetic data was suitable for actual analytical purposes and checked its safety, including the possibility of personal information exposure. The program also introduced practical use cases focused on how analysis and research can first be conducted with synthetic data, before using original data, to assess research suitability and usability in advance.
Meanwhile, the Gangwon Pseudonymized Information Utilization Support Center plans to steadily expand practical training in personal information utilization technologies, including synthetic data, following this program. It will also continue providing tailored support, such as pseudonymization, suitability reviews, expert consulting, and data-use assistance, so that regional companies and institutions can use the data they hold more safely.
