"He devoted himself to the country..." Heaps of Trash Pile Up Around Marker Commemorating Independence Activist's Former Home, Leaving a Bitter Taste

[Financial News]   A poignant sight was captured in Seoul's Seochon Village, where heaps of trash had accumulated around a marker commemorating the former home of an independence activist.
On the 22nd, a photo of a marker commemorating an independence activist, taken in Seoul's Jongno District, was posted on social media and drew attention.
The photo showed various types of trash, including cardboard boxes and plastic bags, piled around a marker bearing the words 'Former Home of Kim Gajin.'
The inscription stated that Kim Gajin was a patriotic enlightenment politician who went into exile in China after the March 1 Movement, engaged in the independence movement, and died in Shanghai.
The person who posted the photo expressed regret, saying, "The independence activist's house is gone, and I suppose they put up the marker at least to preserve his memory. But I wondered, 'Did they really have to leave the trash there and wait for it to be collected?' It broke my heart."
The person added, "Perhaps we have forgotten them, unable to tolerate even a brief inconvenience or minor hassle," expressing sadness.
People who saw the photo responded, "This is so upsetting," "This is a shameful reality," "I think this is when a complaint should be filed," and "Is it too much to hope for a society where those who devoted and sacrificed themselves for the country are respected?"
Some also pointed out that the district office with jurisdiction appears to need to manage the site, perhaps by installing a fence around it or relocating the marker.
