Kakao Games data breach: 103 additional people identified, bringing total to 243

[Financial News] The number of people affected by the personal information breach at Kakao Games has been confirmed at 243. After announcing on the 16th that the personal information of 140 people had been leaked, the company identified an additional 103 affected users during its investigation. No separate breach occurred.
According to the IT industry on the 22nd, Kakao Games announced on its website the previous day that the personal information of 103 users of its remote gaming service RINK (Rink) had additionally been leaked.
The additional information found to have been leaked consisted of identification codes arbitrarily assigned by Kakao Games to identify members and the country codes of some users. The company said no signs have so far been found that important personal information, such as names, addresses, and gender, was leaked.
Kakao Games previously announced on the 16th that the personal information of 140 users of PARTNERS and RINK had been leaked. As the company investigated the scope of the incident, it identified 103 additional affected people, bringing the total number of people affected by the breach to 243.
Kakao Games confirmed at around 6:22 p.m. on the 21st that the personal information of an additional 103 people had been leaked. The hacking attack is believed to have occurred between 10:44 p.m. on the 12th and 7:37 p.m. on the following day, the 13th.
After becoming aware of the incident, Kakao Games blocked the access route and took emergency measures. After reporting the incident to relevant authorities, including the Personal Information Protection Commission (PIPC), the company is investigating the specific cause and exact scope of the breach with an external security specialist. Since the investigation is ongoing, the number of affected people could increase as additional cases are identified.
Users whose personal information was leaked were notified individually by email. Kakao Games also established a "Personal Information Breach Inquiry Page" so users can check directly whether they were affected. Logs and other evidence related to the incident have also been secured.
