Han Dong-hoon: "Do they think everyone lives as recklessly as the Democratic Party?"—A direct hit at Song Young-gil's push for the 'Han Dong-hoon Prevention Bill'

[Financial News]   Song Young-gil, a Democratic Party of Korea lawmaker, announced plans to introduce the so-called 'Han Dong-hoon Prevention Bill.' Han Dong-hoon, an independent lawmaker, directly hit back, calling it "baseless speculation."

On the 21st, Song said on Facebook, "Today, I am pushing to introduce as lead sponsor the so-called 'Han Dong-hoon Prevention Bill,' which would prevent people working for investigative agencies from personally possessing or using investigative information they obtained while in office after leaving their posts."
He argued, "The current Criminal Act includes provisions criminalizing the public disclosure of facts about suspected offenses and the disclosure of official secrets. However, these are merely broad general provisions focused on punishment after the fact, and they have limitations in specifically regulating individual acts such as accessing, copying, taking out, providing, storing, and personally using investigative information."
He added, "We have prepared a separate statute to clearly define in law the acts prohibited in the handling of investigative information. This will strengthen the clarity of the elements of an offense and the law's deterrent function, while preventing the leakage and personal use of investigative information in advance rather than merely punishing violations after they occur."
Appearing on JTBC's 'Jangreuman Yeouido' that day, Song discussed materials related to former Justice Minister nominee Kim Seung-won that Han had made public. He said, "There is a high likelihood that Han Dong-hoon obtained them by using his position when he was Minister of Justice or chair of the emergency leadership committee. That is why I am trying to introduce a bill this time."
Song said, "This is a bill that more specifically prevents information and materials obtained during an investigation from being used elsewhere," adding, "The bill has been drafted, and we are currently collecting signatures."

In response, Han said, "Unlike Song Young-gil's baseless speculation, I did not leave office with any materials related to Kim Seung-won."
He continued, "The report the Democratic Party is referring to—the indictment plan document—was prepared long after I left my post as Minister of Justice. How could I have taken it with me when I left the Ministry of Justice? A time machine?" He then sharply remarked, "I suppose the Democratic Party thinks everyone lives as recklessly as they do."
Han served as Minister of Justice from May 2022 to December 2023. The indictment plan document is reportedly said to have been prepared in December 2024, when Han stepped down from his ministerial post.
