On the 21st, Shen Xiaoyu scored 9.713 points to win the gold medal in the women's jian shu final at the 20th Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya, held at the Aichi Prefectural Budokan in Japan. It was a close contest, with her edging out Seoucho of the Macau Special Administrative Region by just 0.003 points; Seoucho scored 9.710. Indonesia's Eugenia Diva Widodo won the bronze medal with 9.706 points.
The medal was not only the first gold won by the Hong Kong delegation at these Games, but also held special significance for Shen Xiaoyu personally. On the day she secured the gold medal, Shen posted a video on social media along with the message, "I really won an Asian Games gold medal! I worked hard to keep this promise."
The video featured an edited conversation between Shen and Kai at an EXO fan-signing event. When she asked Kai to strike a pose, he replied, "If I do it for you, can you win a gold medal?" Shen answered, "I'll do my best." Kai then readily struck the pose.
The following scenes showed Shen standing on the highest step of the podium with the gold medal around her neck, as well as competing in the wushu final at the Asian Games. She also showed her devotion as a fan by pointing out that her wushu uniform for the final had 'EXO' on it. Finally, she said, "See you at the encore concert from November 6 to 8," expressing her intention to attend EXO's sixth tour, 'EXhOrizon,' at its Seoul encore concert.
Shen Xiaoyu is known as a 13-year EXO fan. She has previously said, "When I was young, I saw EXO and wanted to shine on stage too, so I became an athlete." Born in 2000, Shen is competing in her third Asian Games after participating in the 2018 and 2022 Games. She also served as the flag bearer for the Hong Kong delegation at this year's opening ceremony.
