IDIS Powertel Provides LTE Two-Way Radios 'RADGER' to Seoul Volunteer Crime Prevention Patrol Units

[Financial News] IDIS Powertel provided the fourth-generation (4G) LTE-based two-way radio 'RADGER' free of charge to support the smooth field operations of Seoul's volunteer crime prevention patrol units.
IDIS Powertel said it provided RADGER radios free of charge at the job skills competition hosted by the Seoul Metropolitan Autonomous Crime Prevention Patrol Association in Yeouido, Seoul, on the 19th. 
The radios were provided to association officials and event staff at the event, which was attended by volunteer crime prevention patrol members from Seoul's 25 autonomous districts. This enabled personnel stationed throughout the venue to communicate in real time via LTE radios and manage the event effectively.
Volunteer crime prevention patrol units are community service organizations formed voluntarily by residents to promote local safety. Their activities include crime-prevention patrols and guidance for young people, as well as cooperation with the police and local governments. Because rapid communication among members is especially important during nighttime alley patrols and emergencies, two-way radios capable of supporting group calls are widely used as a key communications tool.
Unlike ordinary smartphones, two-way radios can relay information to multiple members at once during emergencies, making them essential to the effective activities of volunteer crime prevention patrol units. The enactment of the Autonomous Crime Prevention Patrol Units Act in 2023 established a legal basis for their operation and expense support. The Korean National Police Agency has also designated two-way radios as handheld equipment for these units through an official notice.
IDIS Powertel's RADGER is a two-way radio that uses KT LTE base stations. Unlike conventional radios, it reduces coverage limitations associated with separately operated frequency bands. In addition to group calls, it offers GPS location monitoring, emergency radio communication and a whistle function. About 50 volunteer crime prevention patrol units nationwide have adopted and are using RADGER.
Heo Seung-gyo, chairman of the Seoul Metropolitan Autonomous Crime Prevention Patrol Association, said, "While conducting a large outdoor event, I personally experienced the convenience of RADGER because it allowed us to communicate in real time with staff positioned throughout the venue." He added, "This experience gave us an opportunity to appreciate the need for a two-way radio system."
