Incheon Gyeyang, First Third-Generation New Town to Welcome Residents, to Build Rail and City Bus Network

[Financial News] A new city bus route will be introduced in Incheon Gyeyang District, the first of the third-generation new towns to begin welcoming residents this December. Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) will establish a transport system before move-ins begin, enabling transfers at Gyeyang Station to existing rail networks, including the Airport Railroad. It is also pursuing the creation of an M Bus route to Gangnam.
According to LH on the 22nd, the new Route 7701 is being prepared for an October launch ahead of move-ins to A2 and A3 Blocks in Incheon Gyeyang. Once the route is established, a total of six city bus routes, including the five existing routes, will serve the district from the early stages of occupancy.
Route 7701 will operate six vehicles and connect Jakjeon Station, Gyeyang-gu Office, Imhak Station, Incheon Gyeyang District and Gyeyang Station. The route will cover 26.1 kilometers, with 54 trips a day at intervals of 17 to 23 minutes.
At its terminus, Gyeyang Station, passengers can transfer to Incheon Subway Line 1 and the Airport Railroad. The Airport Railroad provides access to central Seoul and the city's northwestern areas, including Hongik University Station and Seoul Station.
At Gimpo International Airport Station, passengers can transfer to Seoul Subway Lines 5 and 9 or the Seohae Line to reach southwestern Seoul, including Yeouido. LH expects Route 7701 to improve access from Incheon Gyeyang District to Gyeyang Station.
An M Bus route to Gangnam is also under consideration to meet commuting demand in the Gangnam area. Incheon Metropolitan City Government applied for the new route to the Metropolitan Area Transport Commission last May, and a demand and feasibility analysis is currently underway. Whether the route will be established will be decided after deliberation by the Route Committee scheduled for November.
In June, LH surveyed bus congestion and traffic flows along major travel routes. It is also consulting with Incheon Metropolitan City Government on introducing additional connected transport options, including shuttle buses, in preparation for increased commuting demand to Seoul after move-ins begin.
Over the medium to long term, LH plans to discuss with relevant agencies the construction of Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) and ways to connect the Daejang–Hongdae Line to Gyeyang.
Incheon Gyeyang District is being developed on 3.35 million square meters in and around Bakchon-dong, Incheon, and will provide a total of 18,000 households. The first move-ins will begin this December, with 1,285 households comprising 747 public-sale homes in A2 Block and 538 homes in the Newlywed Hope Town in A3 Block.
